As the Lunar New Year approaches, this workshop invites you to slow down and step into the rhythm of Chinese tradition, culture, and symbolism.
This year marks the arrival of the Fire Horse (赤马) -- a sign associated with vitality, movement, courage, and renewal.
Through traditional Chinese ink painting, we explore an artistic process rooted in balance and flow:
- not to control the brush, but to follow it
- not to decorate, but to cultivate presence
Ink painting is about energy, breath, and intention -- each stroke reflecting the state of the mind. This workshop is about experiencing Chinese culture not through explanation alone, but through doing.

🖋️🧧 What We’ll Do
In this workshop, you will be introduced to the basics of Chinese traditional ink painting (水墨画) and try painting on rice paper (宣纸) using brush and ink.
Along the way, we will:
- Learn the fundamental tools and brush techniques
- Explore the symbolism of the Fire Horse and the Lunar New Year
- Get familiar with key Spring Festival traditions and cultural meanings
No prior experience is needed.
You’ll leave with:
- Your own ink painting on rice paper
- A hands-on cultural experience connected to the Lunar New Year
- A deeper appreciation of Chinese art and oriental philosophy
