Seminar Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. & Seminar Sunday 11:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Dancer - Teacher - Writer - Historian. Artemis has been dancing, teaching and researching dance history in the United States and abroad for 25 years. She brings her spirited and articulate technique to workshops which include a lecture on the history and/or culture that generates the dances she teaches.

Artemis has contributed to many publications. Extensive travel to 33 countries and intensive research into the idioms of the East, women's issues, psychology, ancient history, oriental dance and dance ethnology have yielded many manuscripts and articles. She has an M.A. in psychology, an MSW license in social work (with a specialization in cross cultural awareness), including a LCSW-C license in social work, and has done postgraduate work in dance movement therapy. Her research is used by Egyptian universities, the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C. and the Library for the Performing Arts in New York. Most recently, Artemis has done field research in Turkey, Romania, Czech Republic, Spain, France. London and Greece, and attended Romany Festivals in France, Turkey and Romania. She was able to get some wonderful video footage of Roma (Gypsies) dancing, celebrating and experiencing everyday life which will be folded into the new version of her video “Artemis Dances”. A video which shows Turkish style oriental dance, Turkish Rom fusion dance, "American style Belly dance," ancient dance and more! Artemis uses dance, history lectures and articles to educate others about the plight of the Roma and continues on in her efforts to have Middle Eastern dance receive the recognition and respect that every other legitimate dance form enjoys. She won the "Ethnic Dancer of the Year Award" presented by the International Academy of Middle Eastern Dance and the "Most Popular Ethnic Dancer Award" from Zaghareet Magazine. For more information on this wonderful artist, please check out her website at www.serpentine.org. We are pleased to welcome this famous and knowledgeable artist back to South Florida. She will be covering the following topics: creating your own drum solo, veil dancing (carving shapes in space), and vintage oriental. Dancers, teachers, students alike don’t miss this chance to study under this wonderful artist!
