Contra Dance in Boca Raton

Details

Contra dancing is a lively social folk dance where partners face each other in two long lines, moving through a sequence of figures with different couples to live or recorded music, often accompanied by a caller who guides the steps with music often provided by a live band, although this time it will be with a DJ. Contra dance has mixed origins from English, Scottish, and French dance styles in the 17th century, with influences from Appalachian traditions.

If you have never heard of it, but love to try new things I urge you to give it a try! It’s really a ton of fun and a very welcoming community!

I personally can’t be there this time around but when you get to the reception table, ask for Drew or Caroline and let them know you’re part of the meet up.

The organization charges $10 to cover the expenses and they offer a free session on your second time around.

You do not need to come with a partner. Please wear soft soled shoes. People bring snacks you csn nibble on at the midpoint break and there is always water in a cooler.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them on the chat or send me a private message!
