PA Restart is a hiking group for adults over 40.
This is a bi-weekly series of topics related to beginning backpacking. This is for people who have not been backpacking or have limited experience.
Topic 1: Choosing a Route, Planning a Trip & Buying the Gear (Feb 11, 7PM)
Topic 2: Reading a Map & Using a Compass; Trail Navigation (Feb 25, 7PM)
Topic 3: Tent or Hammock? Sleeping Bags or Quilts? (March 11, 7PM)
Topic 4: Backpacker Cooking, Water Purifying & Food Storage (March 25, 7PM)
Some very important notes:
While I am trained as a Girl Scout hike leader and am certifying to lead AMC hikes; these sessions come from my experience as an AT hiker and backpacker. I use unconventional methods that work for me; these may not work for you. Come with your own good ideas, and definitely do your own research. This is the fine print: I am an expert at hiking my own hike, and I am happy to share my tips with you. These are, however, just tips from a hobbyist and not a leading expert. Even Finer Print: You are a responsible adult and assume all responsibility when you get out on your backpacking adventure. Since I am not an expert, I can't be held liable for choices you make.
The Zoom sessions will be recorded.
Registered participants will get a Zoom link the night before the event. Please sign into Zoom using the name you use here on Meetup. No others will be allowed into the room because Zoom bombing is an actual thing.
