CREATING A BIG DATA APPLICATION: BUILDING A DATA WAREHOUSE OF THE FUTURE
Mayur Rustagi will walk you through a big data case-study that maps project requirements to the most appropriate big data solutions. He’ll cover how to evaluate the plethora of options available and match the right tool for right job. Navigating the choices from software infrastructure, cloud provider, and hardware requirements, you’ll be covered for your present project and beyond.
Mayur Rustagi (http://www.linkedin.com/in/rustagi/) is the CTO and Co-Founder of Sigmoid Analytics (http://www.sigmoidanalytics.com/) whose expertise is real time big data analytic solutions using open source technologies like Apache Spark, Shark, and Apache Hadoop. Sigmoid Analytics has worked with over 25 customers in the big data space, including several bay area companies like Pubnub, FusionOps, and NBC, to get real time insights on terabytes of data using in-memory Apache Shark warehouse and streaming data input with Apache Spark.
THE NEW RULES OF DATA STORYTELLING
Computer-driven data visualization began as a tool for individual exploration and sense-making. Now a generation of journalists, artists and researchers are borrowing techniques from comics, cinema and video games to create data visualizations that inform, explain, delight and inspire. What are the new rules of data storytelling, and where are we headed?
A veteran of online news, Geoff McGhee now runs a laboratory for information visualization at Stanford University's Bill Lane Center for the American West. He spent 2009-2010 as a John S. Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford, during which he produced the acclaimed interactive documentary, "Journalism in the Age of Data." McGhee spent eight years at The New York Times, where he helped found its online infographics and multimedia team. He has also worked at Le Monde Interactif in Paris and ABCNews.com.
