Al-Anon: Book Study Circle
Details
Looking for a meeting buddy? Come heal with us.
Dear Chosen Family, Seekers, and Magical Beings,
If your life has been touched by someone else’s drinking, you do not have to navigate those stormy waters alone. The Radical Faeries of Los Angeles invite anyone looking for comfort, clarity, or simply a companion to join us for an Al-Anon meeting. Walking into a recovery space for the first time can feel daunting, but you don't have to walk through those doors by yourself.
What is Al-Anon?
Al-Anon is a mutual support program for anyone whose life is or has been affected by someone else’s drinking. It is not an intervention for the alcoholic, nor is it a religious organization. It is a soft place to land where friends and family members of alcoholics share their experience, strength, and hope to solve their common problems.
What We Offer at a Meeting
When you attend a meeting with a Faerie companion, we provide a buffer of safety, warmth, and grounded presence.
At the meeting, you can expect access to:
- Literature & Tools: Free pamphlets, books, and daily reflection guides to help unpack the complexities of codependency and relational trauma.
- A Network of Sharing: A community of people who understand the exact flavor of your struggle without judgment.
- Anonymity & Safety: A strict code of confidentiality where who you see and what is said stays within the room.
Why Going with a Friend Helps
The threshold of a 12-step room can feel like a massive hurdle. Having a Faerie companion by your side offers immediate benefits:
- The Buddy System: We cross the threshold together, eliminating the isolation of walking into a room full of strangers.
- Grounded Comfort: We sit with you, pass you a tissue if you cry, and hold space for your silence or your speech.
- Decompression: We are there after the meeting to grab a tea, process the experience, and help you integrate what you heard.
Intersecting Recovery & Magic: Sacred Space, Empathy, and Coven Work
For those of us walking an earth-based, queer, or magical spiritual path, the 12-step community offers deep, unexpected medicine that can profoundly strengthen our spiritual practices:
-
Redefining Sacred Space: Al-Anon rooms are a masterclass in creating an intentional container. By practicing rigorous confidentiality, deep listening, and cross-talk prohibition, these rooms transform ordinary basements and community centers into literal sacred space—hallowed grounds where the ego drops and the spirit speaks.
-
Deepening Empathy: Listening to testimonies from people of all walks of life stretches our capacity for radical empathy. We learn to separate the disease from the person, recognizing the divine spark in others even when it is clouded by trauma and addiction.
-
Strengthening Coven Work: A healthy coven requires trust, accountability, and the dismantling of codependent dynamics. Al-Anon teaches us how to take responsibility for our own energy, set flawless boundaries, and show up as whole, healed individuals. By learning how to sit in a 12-step circle, we bring a more potent, mature, and unified magic back to our circles, altars, and spiritual communities.
