Do Artefacts Have Politics?

Hosted By
Pierre and Knut H.

Details
In this presentation, we move away from the strictly technical to the political aspects of technology. Pierre will be presenting Langdon Winner's paper "Do Artefacts Have Politics?", published in 1980. We'll see how Winner approaches the question of whether technology is neutral or not, the extent to which politics are entirely orthogonal to technology, what nuclear energy has to do with government structure, and how tomato-picking technology backfired. We'll also take that opportunity to connect it to the broader field of Science and Technology Studies. You can find the paper here, feel free to read it beforehand!
