Welcome to our bi-weekly event! This week we will discuss Unix, including its file system and shell interface, as presented in the 1974 ACM paper, "The UNIX Time-Sharing System."

Although Unix is ubiquitous nowadays (through its many different implementations,) it's important to know where the original ideas came from and what problems the team at Bell Labs were solving. To know the tools we use is a way to become an effective programmer.

Before the event, read the paper in the link below and take some notes for our seminar discussion. We'll kick things off with a guiding theme and set the forum open to discussion. Please refer to the chapter's code of conduct to ensure we have a smooth, pleasant conversation: https://github.com/papers-we-love/lancaster/blob/main/code-of-conduct.md
