Tomáš Bílý: Alan Turing and Chemical basis of morphogenesis

Details

Allan Turing is well known for his work on decrypting Enigma and his research on computation, which laid the foundations for computer science. Little is known about his work on mathematical biology, especially on morphogenesis.

How living things around us got their shape? Is it possible to use simple rules (laws) to describe complex patterns and shapes? We will learn how to use reaction-diffusion theory to model complex shapes. We will see a little bit of math, but for most solutions will be demonstrated using simple and interactive computer simulations.

Bio: Tomáš is software developer, researcher and life hacker. Always astonished with elegance of simple solutions (he usually have not invented himself). He will connect Turing's work with his recent research on mathematical models of biological cells.
