NOTE VENUE & TIME/DAY. READING COURSE: PROGRESS & POVERTY. Books VIII & IX

Details
Henry George's Progress and Poverty addresses the solution & its quality of justice to the paradoxical coexistence of increasing wealth and persistent poverty which still nags us today while his literature have been largely ignored.
The session will begin with a summary of Books 1-7 as an introduction & proceed with the following:
Book 8: Application of the Remedy describes the single tax on land values, replacing all other forms of taxation, as making more economic logic in restoring the common nature of land WITHOUT violating the owner's exclusive rights to it. He demonstrates its compliance with the very canons of taxation where other taxes fail, cites popular objections & mentions endorsers.
Book 9: Effects of the Remedy illustrates how the single tax will (1) enhance wealth, rather than diminish it, (2) raise economic efficiency in trade & commerce, (3) liberate individual freedoms while reducing gaps between classes & (4) enrich social stndards of living for everyone.
Discussions hope to address key issues in contemporary times.
