    Seanchai Celtic Trio

Paradiso, 903 Early St, Santa Fe, NM, US

Paradiso celebrates St. Paddy's Day with Seanchi, a lilting Irish Trio with both original and traditional Irish songs, to be joined by Irish Dancers from the Belisama Dance Company.
Sure to be a joyful night!

Tony Burling on guitar, Maria Shiel on bodhrán and Maria Shiel on Viola make up the New Mexico based celtic trio that is Seanchaí (pronounced shan-a-khee). Seanchaí means 'storyteller' in Irish and that is exactly what this band strives to do through their eclectic and energetic live shows. Blending Irish, American and European influences together, their shows weave through epic musical landscapes that will invite you to dance with your ancestors and dream of past lives.
Brayden Schmick is a multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer. All starting from his collaboration with Grammy Nominated Gabriel and Dresden on his track "Remember" and then releasing his first solo EP "Inner Journey" two years later in 2022. He continues to produce his own imaginative, ambient cinematic, healing music and perform with many other groups. The last couple years he has performed primarily in the SW and NW with Salamander Collective, Tone Ranger, Seanchai, Stephanie Silverwing, and now his new duo Ancient Fusion.
Tony Burling is a born and raised Santa Fean. He has played in several Santa Fe-based bands, including the instrumental band, 'Fire for the People' and folk-art band 'Moonthistle'. His love of Irish and Celtic music came from listening to his dad's Chieftains' records when he was young... and now he writes his own epic fantasy sagas on guitar.
Established Irish songwriter and musician, Maria Shiel, plays the bodrán (traditional Irish drum pronounced 'bow-ran') with Seanchaí. She travelled four and half thousand miles from the west coast of Ireland to study art therapy in Santa Fe. It is here that she met Tony and Brayden, and has embarked upon a new musical journey of enlightenment - one where she gets to bang out 'the call of home' with the musical trio that is Seanchaí!

  • Trey Gunn, formerly of King Crimson, and David Forlano with Present Moment

Trey Gunn, formerly of King Crimson, and David Forlano with Present Moment

    Location not specified yet

Trey Gunn and David Forlano mark the start of a unique collaboration carved from the high desert of New Mexico. Both artists bring a history of genre-bending musical explorations. Gunn is a long-established figure in the prog rock/improvisation scene from his years with King Crimson to his work with collaborators around the world. Forlano melds free-improvisation, electronics and live sampling into their sound. Within their performances the sounds of each player are accessed by the other to create a hyper-refractive audio experience.

    Trey Gunn
A native Texan who resides in New Mexico, Gunn is known for the unusual 10-string touch guitar that he plays. From the blistering live recordings at the Royal Albert Hall in London with David Sylvian and Robert Fripp ("Damage", Virgin Records) to ten years recording and touring with King Crimson – a group many contend as the most aggressively adventurous rock band of all time – Gunn is associated with a constant stream of cutting-edge projects.
In addition to the powerful performances and recordings of his groups Tu-Ner, KTU, 3Below, The Security Project and the multi-media Quodia, Gunn has toured and/or recorded with John Paul Jones, Brian Eno, Maynard J. Keenan's "Puscifer", Vernon Reid, Azam Ali, David Hykes of the Harmonic Choir and Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree.
When not on the road, Gunn continues his work scoring for TV/film, runs his own media label (7d Media) and coaches musicians in the creative process.
David Forlano is a multi-disciplinary performance and visual artist. His commissioned sound design supported dance and theater throughout the 90's in Philadelphia. He was often found teaming with percussionist Toshi Makihara on many performances as well as their own collaborations in free improvisation.
After relocating to Santa Fe in 2005 he took a 10-year break from all performance and sound work. David is currently renewing his passion for collaboration in performance and sound. He currently holds regular sessions in his studio with local musicians and performs in a variety of ensembles. David is one of the cofounders of sandboxmusic.org, a monthly series presenting new creative music to the Santa Fe area. The series is dedicated to providing a forum for music that utilizes creative new techniques, ranging from electronic, experimental acoustic, new jazz, modern classical, and more. The series features local musicians as well as touring artists.
Present Moment is a Santa Fe based co-operative group of four veteran players, Jim

Goetsch, Mustafa Stefan Dill, Kim Stone, and Dave Wayne, that create spontaneous
compositions by using thematic improvisation. Their philosophy is that all music made
throughout the world up to the present moment is available for them to use as a basis
    for their music.

Jim Goetsch began by studying with composer George Russell, touring with Albert
King and appearing in festivals with Senegalese griot Mor Thiam. This was followed by
a move into electronic music with the synthesizer duo Biomechanique. Jim then began
mixing jazz with electronics in the group Baker’s Brew, whose “New Works” release was
hailed by Italian writer Enrico Merlin as “Album Of The Future”.

Mustafa Stefan Dill has performed in solo concerts throughout Europe since 1992 at

venues and festivals throughout Europe and has worked with Cecil Talyor, Guus
Janssen, J.A. Deane, former students John Dikeman and Ava Mendoza, Brahim
Fribgane, and others. Projects past and present include Pray For Brain, Love Unfold
The Sun, and a fresh revisit with his earlier acoustic-based avant-flamenco
    explorations.

Kim Stone has a long list of credits that includes 8 years with Spyro Gyra, 19 years with
the Rippingtons. He has performed and or recorded with BB King, Richie Cole Dave
Amram, Hugh Reagan, Taj Mahal, Barry Altschul, Javon Jackson and Jessica Williams.

Dave Wayne is a self-taught drummer and composer who hails from the Philadelphia

area, landing in Santa Fe in 1993. The past few years have seen Dave accompany a
number of original, innovative and accomplished New Mexico-based jazz and rock
bands such as OrnEtc. and Love Unfold The Sun.

Furthermore, two vocalists simply identified as Xan and Serpentine supply diva-style chants,
whispery musings, and wordless vocalise. Needless to say, Gunn's modus operandi elicits
mystical notions atop firm backbeats, sonorous themes, and bustling ostinato-style motifs.
Essentially, this outing demonstrates his signature style methodologies and blossoming talents
as a composer and soloist. Recorded in between tours with David Sylvian and Robert Fripp.

For Trey Gunn, the merging of storytelling, visual imagery and music have always been

the point of contact for his creative life. Photography, painting, language and film play
together to reinforce and inspire the musical experience he has sought throughout his
    rich career.

A native Texan who now resides in Seattle, Gunn, began his musical life at the age of 7
playing piano. His interest in music grew through various instruments: electric bass,
electric and acoustic guitar, keyboards, and the touch guitar. He completed a degree in
classical music composition at the University of Oregon before moving to New York City
    where his professional life blossomed.

In 1992 he was asked to join David Sylvian and Robert Fripp in a collaborative project
that toured throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. The band released "The
First Day" and "Damage" - a live recording from the Royal Albert Hall in London - both on
Virgin Records. During this period Gunn also found time to record his first solo album
"One Thousand Years." This recording began his work merging storytelling, dreamtime
    and music.

In 1994 he joined King Crimson - a group many contend as the most aggressively,
adventurous rock band of all time. Over the next decade he participated in seventeen
King Crimson CDs, two DVDs and hundreds of performances. For his role in this
configuration of the group (Belew, Fripp, Gunn and Mastelotto), Gunn helped evolve a
new and unique instrument. This 'tapped' instrument, the Warr Guitar, is a 10-string
touch guitar with the range of a piano. It can be heard, in depth, on his 11 solo
    recordings.

In addition to the powerful performances and recordings of The Trey Gunn Band, Gunn
has toured and/or recorded with TOOL, John Paul Jones, Maynard J. Keenan's
"Pusicfer", Vernon Reid, Azam Ali, David Hykes of the Harmonic Choir and played on
Steven Wilson's Grammy nominated recording "Grace Under Pressure".
2003 saw Gunn fully step into the world of multi-dimensional art forms. He began
working on a series of children's stories set in Africa, a setting of Gregory Orr's poem
"Orpheus and Eurydice" and he and Joe Mendelson gave birth to Quodia, a new form of
    multi-media performance art.

In addition to running his own media label (7d Media) and a multi-media production
company (7 Directions), he is dividing his time between his solo work, film and television
scoring, building multi-dimensional media projects and coaching musicians in the
    creative process.
