When a child’s emotions run high, it’s not “bad behaviour” – it’s a nervous system asking for safety. In this gentle, practical workshop you’ll learn how to recognise early signs of stress and use co‑regulation techniques to bring calm and connection.
Led by May Sosa, a psychiatric nurse and parent of a neurodivergent child, this 90‑minute session is designed for parents, caregivers, educators and professionals who support children with autism, ADHD, anxiety or sensory differences.
Together we’ll explore:

  • The science of connection: How a calm adult nervous system helps a child feel safe.
  • Spotting early signals: Identifying your child’s unique stress cues before a full‑blown “meltdown.”
  • Calming phrases, tone and body language: Simple scripts and supportive gestures that soothe, not shame.
  • Sensory tools and strategies: Practical demonstrations of fidgets, weighted pads and other aids.
  • Personalised planning: You’ll create a co‑regulation map tailored to your child’s needs.
  • Storytelling for emotional safety: A short, neurodiversity‑affirming story to model coping and connection.

Expect a warm, judgement‑free space where sharing is optional and everyone’s experience is respected. You’ll leave with hands‑on tools, a certificate of completion and renewed confidence to navigate big feelings together.
Who should attend: Parents and guardians, educational assistants, counsellors, therapists, teachers – anyone who supports a child who sometimes feels overwhelmed.
