Right Bank Writers’ Group — French-to-English Translation Workshop

A literary translation workshop brought to you by Paris Lit Up.

On the last Saturday of every month, the Right Bank Writers’ Group turns its attention to the art — and occasional impossibility — of translating French into English.

Together, we’ll work on a French-language text and explore the different ways it might live in English. We’ll compare choices, discuss tone, rhythm, meaning and style, and tackle those words and expressions that never seem to have one perfect translation.

This is a collaborative workshop: there isn’t necessarily one “correct” answer, and the discussion is as important as the finished translation.

You do not need to be a professional translator to join us. Writers, translators, language lovers and anyone curious about the relationship between French and English are welcome.

Bring something to write with. Any texts or materials needed for the session will be provided.
