All those doomsday preppers on TV might be a bit on the left side of crazy BUT we can benefit from a reasonable amount of preparedness when the sky starts falling.

While a Zombie apocalypse is highly unlikely, a tropical storm, hurricane or wildfire is most definitely in our near future. As we approach the 10th anniversary of our friends Charley, Francis and Jeanne, ask yourself...are you really prepared?

Francis left my home without power and water for almost 10 days in September of 2004. It didn't bother me too much since I happened to be in Australia at the time, but my neighbors filled me in. Now that I'm a pet Mommy I'm a bit more concerned. I need to be able to take care of not only myself but three little ones who depend on me.

I've done extensive research and have come up with lots of things we can all do to better prepare ourselves for the next disaster. My preps include the obvious and the not so obvious stuff you need to have on hand. Getting prepared is much easier and cheaper than you think and more importantly can mean life or death for your pets.

So please join me for this important clinic and I'll teach you all about what I've learned. I'll print up checklists and tips for you to take home as well. I'll be hosting this at my house...hopefully on the patio if the weather permits. Well behaved Parrots are welcome.

There is no cost for this event, however I would like to collect a small donation of $5 from each guest to help our two local rescues, Angel Wings and MARS, buy preparedness supplies. I'll provide water, a bottle or two of wine, cups, plates, napkins and ice. Please bring a bottle or appetizer to share with the group.

I live at the corner of A1A and Sunrise in Satellite Beach in the peach townhouses. My unit is about halfway down. Look for the redwood bench sitting on red lava rock with lots of flowers. Please park in an un-numbered spot. Overflow parking is available one block south at the auto detail shop. Park on the north side of the building and cross the mulch track into our lot.
