Wavyleaf Basketgrass ID and Mapping Workshop

Details

The Potomac Appalachian Trail club (PATC), the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC), and the Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) are sponsoring a workshop on the invasive wavyleaf basketgrass. This species is a recent addition to North America and a serious threat to the ecology of our Eastern deciduous forest. The AT Corridor in Northern VA and MD is a major battlefront in stopping it's spread. Participants will be trained on wavyleaf biology, ecology and identification. In addition, we'll introduce our PATC ArcGIS mapping app "Field Maps". The "classroom" segment of the workshop will be at Sky Meadows State Park, 11012 Edmonds Ln., Markham. VA in the carriage barn. Field session will be nearby on NPS or PEC- easement land. Come prepared to go off trail through the forest. Wear boots, appropriate clothing, bring water and a sack lunch. Participants will be given information on the new mapping app prior to the workshop so that they can load it onto their phone. All participants will be asked to adopt a section of land or trail to monitor for wavyleaf this summer (minimum -three days) For more information contact Rob Lamar at Natural_Resource@patc.net
