Join PATC hikers to explore this local gem and enjoy the late summer sunshine. Sky Meadows State Park near Delaplane, Va, is in a bucolic setting offering hills, views, and access to the Appalachian Trail (AT). On this excursion we will climb up the South Ridge Trail, stroll the AT, and descend via the North Ridge and Piedmont Trails, pausing at three viewpoints overlooking green meadows and pastoral farms (4.9 miles). We will finish with a leisurely stroll on the shady Snowden Interpretive Trail (1.1 miles). Option to omit Snowden portion and return to car. Pace will be a gentle 2.0-2.25 mph, but hills are steep. 1,000 feet of climbing. v
Meet 10:15 am at main Visitor Center parking lot to sign in. Hike starts at 10:30. (The late start time allows the hike leader to avoid rush hour traffic in DC.) Restrooms next to visitor center.
Entrance fee: $10. Free with Virginia State Park permit. BRING CASH for paying entry fee at kiosk. This is on an honor system and is enforced.
