Sky Meadows State Park - Hills & Overlooks - 5 Miles

Details
Join PATC hikers to explore this local gem and enjoy early autumn views. Sky Meadows State Park near Delaplane, Va, is in a bucolic setting offering hills, overlooks, and access to the Appalachian Trail (AT). On this excursion we will climb steeply up the South Ridge and North Ridge Trails, stroll the AT, and descend via the Ambassador Whitehorse and Piedmont Overlook Trails, pausing at five viewpoints overlooking expansive meadows and pastoral farms. Option to add an extra mile at the end, on the Snowden Interpretive Trail.
This will NOT be a fast hike. Expect a gentle pace of 2.0-2.25 mph, slower on the long steep 1,000-ft climb. We will stop to rest a couple of times during the climb. We will rest again at the overlooks.
Meet 10:30 am at main Visitor Center parking lot to sign in and meet each other. Hike starts at 10:45. (The late start time allows the hike leader to avoid rush hour traffic in DC.) Restrooms next to visitor center.
Entrance fee: $10. Free with Virginia State Park permit. BRING CASH for paying entry fee at kiosk. This is on an honor system and is enforced. Carpools encouraged.
RSVP here by tuesday evening. If you need to cancel, please change your RSVP to allow others to move off the waiting list.
Use Meetup Comments for routine questions and comments. Call hike leader Amber at 703-231-5978 if urgent. Note there is minimal cell phone service on these trails and in the park.
