Thursday Hike: Rock Creek Western Ridge, Northern Section; 6.6 Moderate Miles

Join us for an invigorating 6.6-mile loop hike along the Western Ridge's northern section in Rock Creek Park. This moderate trail offers a blend of nature, history, and adventure, providing an escape from urban life right in the city’s backyard.

This hike meanders through gently rolling hills, offering scenic views and an atmosphere that makes you feel miles away from the city. Since it’s a weekday outing, the trails are expected to be quiet and uncrowded, allowing you to fully enjoy the beauty of Rock Creek Park. Along the way we will visit a Civil War Fort Site, a historic Ford Crossing, the rustic cabin of the “Poet of Rock Creek,” and a community urban garden.

Bring water, snacks, and appropriate hiking gear for a moderate trail. Poles are optional but may be helpful at the stream crossing. Friendly dogs are welcome, but please keep them leashed at all times. Restrooms are located at both the beginning and end of the hike.

The hike will end around 1:30 PM.

Please note. You must register by 9:00 PM the night before the hike. After signing up for a hike, if you decide not to attend, please sign out immediately. The latest time to sign out is by 9:00 PM the night before the hike. This courtesy allows others on the wait list an opportunity to join the hike. If you do not attend and have not signed out at least one hour before the hike begins, you will be considered a no-show.

Time to Meet: Please meet at 9:45 for introductions and sign in. We will start hiking promptly at 10:00

Directions to Trailhead: We meet at the Rock Creek Nature Center and Planetarium, 5200 Glover Rd NW, Washington, DC 20015.
