Step Into Summer: Women’s Hiking Basics & Nature Walk
Join us for a welcoming and beginner-friendly women’s outdoor experience designed to help you feel confident, prepared, and connected this summer hiking season.
We’ll begin with a gentle group walk on the Overlook Trail in Shenandoah River State Park. Please park at the Cullers Overlook parking lot.
The Overlook Trail is an easy 1-mile out-and-back path leading to a scenic overlook, perfect for beginners and anyone looking for a relaxed pace, meaningful conversation, and time to enjoy nature together.
This is not about speed, distance, or experience level—it’s about connection, confidence, fresh air, and community.
Whether you’re brand new to hiking or returning to the outdoors after time away, you are warmly welcome.
After the walk, we’ll gather for a beginner-friendly presentation covering warm-weather hiking essentials, including:
• Clothing and layering for summer conditions
• Hydration and sun protection
• Basic hiking gear and trail safety
• Navigating changing weather like heat waves and sudden storms
• Leave No Trace principles and how to protect our trails, wildlife, and natural spaces
Please bring your book bag or backpack for our interactive “What’s in Your Book Bag?” activity, where we’ll explore essential hiking items and discuss what to carry for safe and enjoyable outdoor adventures.
Please bring:
• Water
• Lunch
• A snack
• Comfortable walking shoes
• Your backpack/book bag for the activity
The program is focused on building practical skills, awareness, and confidence so participants can enjoy safe, enjoyable, and responsible summer hiking experiences—from local trails to longer outdoor adventures.
Come as you are and enjoy simple moments of joy, new friendships, and a supportive outdoor experience. It’s not about the miles we hike, but the smiles we make along the way.
There is a $10.00 fee to enter the park unless you have a state park pass.
