Wavyleaf Mapping Blitz

Details

We'll be conducted a wavyleaf basketgrass (Oplismenus undulatifolius) mapping blitz on NPS Appalachian Trail and other conservation land near Ashby Gap, VA on Saturday, June 7. This area is a major hot spot for wavyleaf, a relatively new but extremely problematic invasive plant in our area. Participants will be given instructions beforehand to download the app "Field Maps" onto your phones. We will use this app to map locations of wavyleaf on forested lands. Mapping will be OFF TRAIL, some sections can be steep, rocky, with blowdowns and thick vegetation (that sounds fun doesn't it!). Participants should be relatively fit, be comfortable with their navigational skills in the woods and have some prior experience with wavyleaf identification.

Bring water, lunch, wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Please arrive promptly at 10AM as once we are out in the field it will be difficult to contact us. For more information, please contact PATC Natural Resource advisor, Rob Lamar at Natural_Resource@patc.net
