Landscape Restoration/Woody Invasive plant removal MOORES RUN
Details
Spend a fun day protecting the natural resources surrounding the Appalachian Trail (AT). We will be tackling a large infestation of non- native invasive woody plants (multiflora, oriental bittersweet, Tree-of-Heaven, wineberry, etc) on AT lands near Moore' s Run, an ecologically significant area identified by the VA Natural Heritage program. No experience necessary, we'll train.
Come prepared to do battle against these problematic invasives. Work will be off-trail. We will be cutting/sawing stems and (only if you are willing) daubing a little herbicide on cut stems (under the supervision of a Commercial Pesticide Applicator). Work for folks wanting to only mechanically remove plants as well.
Bring water, lunch/snack, work gloves, long pants, long sleeve shirt and sturdy appropriate footwear. Other PPE for folks using herbicides will be provided.
We will meet at the small AT parking area on Yardbird Drive, past the Northern Virginia 4H Center and just past the AT itself. https://maps.app.goo.gl/R8Qupyfa3vDq2BUQ8
NOTE: This is a weather dependent event. In case of rain, we will send email to all those signed up about the cancellation.
