What we’re about
Join us for discussions about Doctor Who!
This group veers into Wibbly-Wobbly-Timey-Wimey stuff as we discuss this 60+ year old fantastic show!
This group regenerated from our prior one of 4+ years. Meetings then were exclusively on Zoom - and online events will remain so, Pacific Time, Monday evenings - but we added more in-person themed meetups in the Los Angeles/OC area such as at the Disneyland Resort, local Cons. We’ll talk about episodes/stories you'll view prior to the event, general discussion topics such as characters, plots, themes explored in Doctor Who. Or whatever you choose! This will be your group and is open to suggestions (we’ve a list from all members in the past 4 years with room for more). And with the show’s debut on Disney+, this group would like to be accessible to brand-new viewers too. Naturally, we mesh and crossover well with our sci-fi, gaming, cosplay, comics/novel, Disney peers.
All humans and extraterrestrials/surviving Time Lords may apply! But this is also a safe space (though we had to convince Cmdr. Strax that the word "Club" had multiple meanings). No harassing anyone nor repeat no-shows without canceling lest you get banished into the Void (not joking). Family-friendly though attendees under age 18 must have a guardian with them.

•OnlineDoctor Who Musical Holiday “Gold”
OnlineWant to share your favorite music themes from Doctor Who?
Join us in this ongoing event series! This time you can include selections from the Christmas Specials!
Though not quite as dependent on a musical soundtrack as Star Wars is with John Williams’ scores --- imagine the Death Star Trench Run, Throne Room WITHOUT music or set to a polka by our friend Weird Al --- Doctor Who has likewise subconsciously linked your emotions to stories… your empathy for Rose in Doomsday, for instance. And it helps you remember episode details better!
First, select 5-10 of your favorite music soundtrack selections to share from YouTube/Dailymotion, 1-5 min in length. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLl0U0Uk_z8&list=PLD1110BD00889E104&index=27 accompanying Rose’s trip to Bad Wolf Bay. You may select audio from any stories aired 1963-present - from BBC Radiophonic Workshop to Dudley Simpson to Murray Gold (both pictured above) to Segun Akinola. No spoken dialogue, just the music though a song used in the series is fine. Accompanying video is OK but not needed. Copy/paste your selected links to a Word or other document prior to the event to use as your personal list. And this time include at least 1 selection from a Christmas special!
The event will start on Zoom as usual, then add Watch2Gether (which shares from YouTube and Dailymotion, so make your selections from those sources). We'll then tell you how to share your selections so everyone can listen to them at the same time!
Questions also to discuss: Do you prefer electronic score or symphonic? Your favorite Season/Series Opening Credits Theme? Which Doctor and/or companion’s theme is your favorite?
---------------
Log onto Zoom FIRST (link on right visible only to those that RSVP) a few minutes prior to the event, the host will admit you shortly thereafter. Check that your Zoom profile name matches your Meetup one. Then easy-to-follow instructions for Watch2Gether viewing will be given (ie, "click here"). But do NOT load videos until the host directs you to.3 attendees
•Online"Be Seeing You!" - The Influence of Patrick McGoohan on Doctor Who
Online"Now, you're not to worry. I never carry a gun. They're noisy, and they hurt people. Besides, I manage very well without."
-- Quote from the Doctor... right?
Wrong! It's from John Drake, played by Patrick McGoohan!
He was the star of Danger Man, The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, creator of The Prisoner. Did his views of a hero – whose brain was the main weapon, never carried firearms, had a strong sense of morality – influence the development of the Doctor? He worked with writers, future producer Derrick Sherwin, actors later involved in Doctor Who including Patrick Troughton, Roger Delgado, even set locations like Portmeirion.
"Never ignore a coincidence..." Now that's a Doctor quote (11)
View as many of these as you can prior to our event and we'll talk about:
