What we’re about
Join us for discussions about Doctor Who!
This group veers into Wibbly-Wobbly-Timey-Wimey stuff as we discuss this 60+ year old fantastic show!
This group regenerated from our prior one of 4+ years. Meetings then were exclusively on Zoom - and online events will remain so, Pacific Time, Monday evenings - but we added more in-person themed meetups in the Los Angeles/OC area such as at the Disneyland Resort, local Cons. We’ll talk about episodes/stories you'll view prior to the event, general discussion topics such as characters, plots, themes explored in Doctor Who. Or whatever you choose! This will be your group and is open to suggestions (we’ve a list from all members in the past 4 years with room for more). And with the show’s debut on Disney+, this group would like to be accessible to brand-new viewers too. Naturally, we mesh and crossover well with our sci-fi, gaming, cosplay, comics/novel, Disney peers.
All humans and extraterrestrials/surviving Time Lords may apply! But this is also a safe space (though we had to convince Cmdr. Strax that the word "Club" had multiple meanings). No harassing anyone nor repeat no-shows without canceling lest you get banished into the Void (not joking). Family-friendly though attendees under age 18 must have a guardian with them.

•OnlineDoctor Who Salutes Its Veterans!
OnlineThe Doctor opposes war and the military mind - even though the military sometimes did some of his dirty work!
Yet in real life, a number of DW actors and production staff were veterans - Richard Todd, Bernard Cribbins, William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and more. Jon Pertwee was (allegedly) even an instructor for a young Ian Fleming and answered directly to Winston Churchill!Prior to our event, view these tales involving DW veterans and we'll talk about:
The Dam Busters
Via Amazon Prime or https://archive.org/details/dam_busters1955 (2:04:49)
This real-life WWII story is also mandatory viewing for Star Wars fans. At least 8 actors later appeared in Doctor Who as well as one actor’s grandchild! The End of Time, Part 2 (and obviously see Part 1 before)
Via Amazon Prime or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8OXy-lRSjk&list=PL6Zss4NppW_LWoVO6omxJYS0EFGayUp4c&index=1 (in 3 min video bites)And there is a connection between the two productions, see if you can figure it out!

Life Day and Dapper Day Celebrations - In-person Meet at Disneyland Park
Disneyland Park, 1313 Disneyland Dr, Anaheim, CA 92802, Anaheim, CA, USJoin us November 15-16 for Life Day in Galaxy's Edge and Dapper Day in Disneyland Park!
This hybrid in-person event allows fun Disney/Sci-fi bounding opportunities throughout the weekend! You may attend either day or both!
And in doing so, we’ll demonstrate the unique ability of Doctor Who to interact with all IPs/franchises in space and time and bridge the gaps between them! You'll need a Disneyland Park reservation(s) and ticket(s) or Magic Key (Inspire Key only for Nov 15) to attend https://disneyland.disney.go.com or discounted tix via the Dapper Day site/newsletter for Nov 16 only – then support them by attending their Boutique, of course - https://dapperday.com/pages/holiday-2025-disneyland-resort
We'll also cross-meet with other Meetup groups both days.Life Day - Saturday (2:30PM-10:30PM):
This joyous holiday celebrating family originated with the Wookiees on Kashyyyk! It involved feasting and a journey to their Tree of Life. Life orbs and red robes were signature features! There was even a vid briefly shown on the HoloNet chronicling the Wookiee Chewbacca’s efforts (along with his human) to return home and celebrate the day! Sadly no official copies exist now, censored by the Galactic Empire apparently. But after the fall of the Empire, the holiday and festivities including singing were assimilated into other cultures!
Thus we’ll travel to Black Spires Outpost on Batuu (instead of Kashyyyk, fauna there too dangerous this time of year) where the holiday is observed after the Batuuan Harvest Festival. Knowledge of Shyriiwook isn't necessary – though TARDIS translation circuits still seem to have trouble with it, Batuu natives can translate for us!
Interestingly, Jedi Knights and Padawans as well as Sith Lords (yes, >2) are all keen to celebrate together! You as (surviving) Time Lords and Earth companions will attire in your representative clothing - provided you adhere to the guidelines set forth by Star Tours and its parent corporation https://disneyland.disney.go.com/faq/parks/dress Life Day globes are encouraged – if Black Spires Outpost runs out, Kerblam! subsidiary Amazon sells some for $18+ - but we’ll leave the wearing of red Wookiee robes or other attire up to you!Dapper Day - Sunday (9:45AM-11PM):
Here's your chance to "step out in style" at the biannual unofficial event! Though costumes/cosplay are frowned upon, the Doctors and their companions were mostly attired in Earth fashion… who will question if you're similarly dressed? 😉😉 As there’s no #Galliday event this year, we’ll pick up the baton/sonic screwdriver. And we'll try to find the Navarino 1950s Club (pictured above, they look so happy!).We’ll re-visit Black Spires Outpost on planet Batuu (the Disneyland app converts your phone into a limited Vortex Manipulator). Be like ultimate tourist Donna Noble, show everyone how to interact with entities from other worlds!
And we’ll pay respects to Murray from Nostalgia Trips and his passengers who never made it to Disneyland in 1959. 😢

•OnlineDoctor Who Musical Holiday “Gold”
OnlineWant to share your favorite music themes from Doctor Who?
Join us in this ongoing event series! This time you can include selections from the Christmas Specials!Though not quite as dependent on a musical soundtrack as Star Wars is with John Williams’ scores --- imagine the Death Star Trench Run, Throne Room WITHOUT music or set to a polka by our friend Weird Al --- Doctor Who has likewise subconsciously linked your emotions to stories… your empathy for Rose in Doomsday, for instance. And it helps you remember episode details better!
First, select 5-10 of your favorite music soundtrack selections to share from YouTube/Dailymotion, 1-5 min in length. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLl0U0Uk_z8&list=PLD1110BD00889E104&index=27 accompanying Rose’s trip to Bad Wolf Bay. You may select audio from any stories aired 1963-present - from BBC Radiophonic Workshop to Dudley Simpson to Murray Gold (both pictured above) to Segun Akinola. No spoken dialogue, just the music though a song used in the series is fine. Accompanying video is OK but not needed. Copy/paste your selected links to a Word or other document prior to the event to use as your personal list. And this time include at least 1 selection from a Christmas special!
The event will start on Zoom as usual, then add Watch2Gether (which shares from YouTube and Dailymotion, so make your selections from those sources). We'll then tell you how to share your selections so everyone can listen to them at the same time!
Questions also to discuss: Do you prefer electronic score or symphonic? Your favorite Season/Series Opening Credits Theme? Which Doctor and/or companion’s theme is your favorite?
---------------
Log onto Zoom FIRST (link on right visible only to those that RSVP) a few minutes prior to the event, the host will admit you shortly thereafter. Check that your Zoom profile name matches your Meetup one. Then easy-to-follow instructions for Watch2Gether viewing will be given (ie, "click here"). But do NOT load videos until the host directs you to.3 attendees
