"Be Seeing You!" - The Influence of Patrick McGoohan on Doctor Who
Details
"Now, you're not to worry. I never carry a gun. They're noisy, and they hurt people. Besides, I manage very well without."
-- Quote from the Doctor... right?
Wrong! It's from John Drake, played by Patrick McGoohan!
He was the star of Danger Man, The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, creator of The Prisoner. Did his views of a hero – whose brain was the main weapon, never carried firearms, had a strong sense of morality – influence the development of the Doctor? He worked with writers, future producer Derrick Sherwin, actors later involved in Doctor Who including Patrick Troughton, Roger Delgado, even set locations like Portmeirion.
"Never ignore a coincidence..." Now that's a Doctor quote (11)
