!HIKE/SNOW SHOE/YAKS ! Deschutes River Trail: Meadow Day Use CHALLENGING
Details
*1-8-2026 I drove by the trailhead this afternoon just to see what the conditions are. The road was partially ice/dusting of snow and rutted as always and I'm guessing it will be icy terrain in spots. BRING YAKS, wear sturdy hiking boots, pole(s), water, snack, dress in layers and come prepared with 10 Essentials.
PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY AND KEEP YOUR RSVP CURRENT. If you don't have YAKS I probably won't allow you to go.I love this hike. It's got a mixture of terrain, scenery and beauty. Please Arrive early, come prepared. Bring water, poles, snack, proper hiking snow boot/shoes, ARRIVE EARLY, have your 10 essential (https://americanhiking.org/10essentials/) AND a happy attitude.
CHECK BACK PRIOR TO THE EVENT FOR ANY UPDATES OR CHANGES!
***THIS WILL BE A SNOW SHOE OR A YAK TRACK EVENT AND IT WILL NOT BE EASY TERRAIN TO MANEUVER SO KNOW YOUR LIMITS AND CAPABILITIES. IT WON'T BE A TYPICAL MEADOW HIKE, MORE OF AN ADVENTURE. COME PREPARED FOR ANYTHING AND CHECK BACK PRIOR TO THE EVENT FOR ANY UPDATES OR CANCELLATION.
WEATHER PERMITTING. THE ROAD INTO THE PARK MIGHT BE CHALLENGING IF IT'S A MUDDY MESS. IF THERE'S SNOW, WE'LL SNOW SHOE OR YAK TRAK. CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES!

"Experience this 6.4-mile out-and-back trail near Bend, Oregon. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 2 h 26 min to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and mountain biking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are March through November."
