The Food Bank relies on volunteers to help assist with the preparation, maintenance, and harvesting of fresh produce seasonally for clients across the national capital region. In 2024, the program provided a total of 152,992 lbs of fresh produce!

  • Tasks are entirely manual and outdoor, primarily consisting of planting, weeding, and harvesting a variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as gleaning excess crops from nearby commercial fields.
  • Volunteers must have a high level of mobility, as the work involves significant walking, bending, lifting, and carrying outdoors. The minimum age is 14, and volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Please watch this instructional video before attending

Please bring:

  • Re-fillable water bottle
  • Closed toe footwear
  • Comfortable clothes including a white or light colored shirt
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • Hat
  • Work gloves
  • Knee pads (optional)
  • Snacks or a packed lunch
