New Meeting: Lunar Eclipse Viewing at Griffith Park Observatory

Announcing a new meeting for Photographers and Digital Artists of Los Angeles!

What: Lunar Eclipse Viewing at Griffith Park Observatory

When: Friday, February 22, 6:00 PM

Where: (A location for this meeting hasn't been chosen yet)

Who should come: Anyone interested in viewing a total lunar eclipse with a few friends. There will be a large group of foodies at this event. Photographers are welcome to join in on the festivities as the foodies will likely be more into drinking and partying!

Why: Because it'll be fun, let's all BYOB and we can howl to the full moon in eclipse and we can take photos of the eclipse! This will be the ONLY Total Eclipse for all of 2008. The next one will not occur until Dec. 2010!

Meeting Description: Dress warmly and bring a little nosh to share and BYOB something that alters your mind (legal stuff please) and we can view the total lunar eclipse together. Bring your camera and monster lens if you want to take photos of it or not. Maybe bring a blanket to relax on the lawn (I dunno, we might not be allowed) but there are picnic benches, however, it might be a zoo with other moon watchers so let's play it fast and loose. Worse case, we can walk up a gentle trail with our food and drink and huddle together and revel in the moonlight together.

You can again drive up there and park in the lot, no more buses or reservations required. Also admission is free to check out the Observatory after it has finally reopened after the long renovation of the Observatory. I haven't been inside myself, so I'm going to arrive early in order to be sure to get a parking space and view the inside of the Observatory before 6pm.

I also plan to take photos of the eclipse, but I don't really have a monster lens, so I'm not expecting too much. You really need at least a 500mm or more and I merely have a 300mm lens. If you have a telescope or even binoculars, bring it!

Here's the Observatory web site Click Here

This event is cross posted with my Foodies group, so while I plan to take some photos, there will be a large group of non-photographers with me to view the Lunar eclipse.

Figure it'll be all over by about 8:30-9pm so afterwards, let's go for some drinkies or maybe grab some Thai food in Thaitown in Hollywood. which is but a couple miles away. Or perhaps even the Electric Lotus Indian place that I've yet to try. I think it's a veggie restaurant.
