Gamifying GIS: From OpenStreetMap to Steam
Details
We're teaming up with PDX OSGeo -- Portland's open source geo group -- to host a special out-of-town guest (and excellent data viz designer!) EJ Fox.
EJ Fox is a designer, developer, and journalist who most recently collaborated with Colin Miller to bring Subway Builder to Steam.
EJ's talk is titled "Gamifying GIS: From OpenStreetMap to Steam", and the talk will share the technical and creative process of turning OpenStreetMap data, routing algorithms, and maplibre styles into gameplay. We’ll explore data sonification, interface design for spatial data, shipping with Electron, and lessons from supporting an active modding community.
As always (for PDX OSGeo meetings) there will be pizza, and BYOB is available from across the hall at HotLips.
