Home Assistant and automations

Ever wanted to be able to walk through your house and have the lights come on automatically depending on the amount of ambient light. Or dim depending on the time of night? Wanted to have a fan come on automatically and close the blinds when the temperature in a room reaches a certain point? These are some of the things you can do with Home Assistant and automations. We'll talk about common ones and how to set up your home to be 'hands free'

This group is all about do it yourself home automation, and specifically using the free open source solution 'Home Assistant'. Usually there is a laptop running home assistant and you can connect with your phone to try it out. If you've never heard of home assistant and want to learn, come out and join us. Already have home assistant and want to talk about ideas or solve some problem you are having? This is the group for just that!

If you are bringing a Raspberry Pi to flash from scratch you'll need a small monitor that takes a HDMI input and also a HDMI cable (check and see which model of Pi you have and which HDMI cable you'll need).
