Details

UPDATE: I was just told that day parking in state parks just went from $5 to $10. Perhaps get yourself an annual or biannual pass.

I am excited to kayak Rooster Rock again! This event is weather-dependent.

It's one of the easiest to reach, beautiful and easiest to paddle (this time of year) destination on Columbia River.

Take a day off and treat yourself to an island picnic and serene beautiful scenery of the Gorge with fellow kayakers.

Paid parking - $10. Annual pass ($30) lets you skip the car line.
It's a giant parking area. To find the specific place we meet put these coordinates into google maps: "45.5463, -122.2409"
(Turn left after the toll booth and make the first right after the fist bathrooms. You've arrived.)

Gathering at 11am, hoping to be on the water by 11:30pm, back around 3pm.

Simple plan - we head towards Sand island, we stop on the NE shores of it. There is a big surreal sand dune. We can run down it, have picnic (pack your food) and sunbathe. Then we paddle back. We alter the plan if needed.

This area is a clothing optional beach. We are unlikely to encounter many people there, but some possibility to see nude people. Also (unlikely, but is on the table) - if anyone feels like wearing their birthday suit - suit yourself.

Ideas for things to pack:
- Kayak and all of the gear (skeg, seats, floor, pump, paddles, PFD)
- Layered clothing
- Water
-Sun protection
- Sunglasses
- Food
- Bathing suit?
- Towel
- Water shoes (we'll be getting in and out on a beach)

If you need a spot in the kayak or have any questions - contact Jack.

Please support our group: Consider helping us run the group by making a small (say $10) donation, more if you are using our equipment. All collected funds will be used for the annual Meetup fee and for purchases of loaner equipment. To donate, please give cash to the event host, or send it via Venmo to @JackBaikov (if it asks for last 4 digits of phone number, they are 7191). Thank you!

A quick reminder that Meetup organizers are unpaid volunteers and claim no special expertise or knowledge. We will paddle as a group but ultimately you are responsible for your own experience, safety and decision-making.
