Global Horror Showcase: LA CASA LOBO (THE WOLF HOUSE)
Join Movie Club member Cat O., along with cohost Jake Brown, for the very first film in her series highlighting notable horror titles from around the world: 2018's stop-motion spiral into surrealist folktale, La Casa Lobo (or The Wolf House). Directed by Chilean animation duo Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña, written by León/Cociña with Alejandra Moffat, and starring Amalia Kassai and Rainer Krause, the film touches on the atrocities committed by a former Nazi's post-World War II cult in South America, before diving headfirst into its escapee's otherworldly encounters when finding sanctuary in the distant woods.
About La Casa Lobo
From Letterboxd: "After escaping from a religious colony in Chile, Maria seeks shelter in a mansion where she’s taken in by two pigs, its only inhabitants. Like in a stop-motion dream, the universe of the house reacts to her feelings. The animals slowly morph into humans and the house into a dark, menacing world."
Viewing Options for La Casa Lobo
Streaming options include Plex (HD) and Tubi (SD), with additional for-purchase/rental options at Apple TV+ and Amazon.
“Global Horror Showcase” Portland Movie Club Meet-Up Series
Whether it's a zombie flick from Korea, a dark fantasy tale from Mexico, or a folk horror classic from the UK, we're here to dissect many of horror cinema's international greats. With each new discussion, we'll explore the many grim traits of a film through its unique cultural corner of the globe. We hope you'll join us!
Here's how the Portland Movie Club Meet-Ups work
- Just like a book club, we watch the movie before we meet. (Try watching it even if you've already seen it before. You don't have to watch one to join us, but it'll be more fun that way. Also, try taking notes to help remember the most interesting parts, and bring 'em with you if you can!)
- We'll meet at Lucky Labrador at 4pm on the scheduled date. We'll have signs at our tables, but we'll also try to be obvious and identifiable.
- Grab some food, some drinks, and spend time socializing/discussing this movie with us! We'll go around introducing ourselves, the host will give a quick summary of the film's development, and we'll dive into the group discussion from there.
