Portland Movie Club global horror spotlight presenting El Conde (2023) dir. Pablo Larrain
Let's talk movies! Join PMC member Cat O in discussing Larrain's Oscar nominated feature, El Conde.

A bit about the film:
El Conde is categorized as black comedy satirizing Chile's ex-dictator, Augusto Pinochet, as a 250 year old vampire. It was well-received at the time of its release, garnering praise from critics, and it was nominated for best cinematography at the 96th Academy Awards. Larrain is known for his work dramatizing historical figures (Spencer, Maria, and Jackie being other projects of his), and in this picture he takes a more experimental approach depicting an infamous figure from his home country.

A description from Letterboxd: "Things are about to get bloody...After living for over two centuries, Augusto Pinochet is a vampire ready to die...but the vultures around him won't go without one last bite".

Tips:
This film is considered a horror-comedy, and it is much more accessible to folks who are squeamish about horror than the previous selections for this group. However, if there are any reservations, I would still encourage using websites such as does the dog die to review the content of the film.

This film can be streamed through Netflix and Apple TV. It can also be found at rental stores such as Movie Madness.

We are located in the main room of Lucky Labrador on Sunday 1/4. If there are any changes to the space we meet, I will post both here and in the Discord. Hope to see you there!
