It’s officially fall, but it’s not too late to get on the water! Care to join us for a chill paddle on the Tualatin River in your kayak, stand-up paddleboard, or canoe (or one you rent)?

What to expect

  • This stretch of the Tualatin River is very calm. A wise man once said this about it: “If you drop a leaf on the surface it will take you a couple seconds to figure out which way is downstream.”
  • We'll aim to get on the water around 10:15. (Please try not to be late so you don’t miss the group.)
  • We’ll probably paddle around for one or two hours total.
  • Some of us might go to lunch afterwards.

What to bring to Browns Ferry Park

  • Your kayak/stand-up paddleboard/canoe OR a reservation to rent one from Alder Creek: https://aldercreek.com/rental-overview/kayak-rentals-tualatin/ (Their site says “We do accept walk-up rentals, but weekends are often fully booked” so it’s probably risky to wait, and having a reservation will save time so you can get on the water faster.)
  • A PFD / life jacket. (If you’re renting a kayak or SUP, they’ll provide a life jacket.) Per Oregon law, all paddlecraft (canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, drift boats or rafts, etc.) need to carry a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket for each person on board and the life jacket must be readily accessible.
  • Your Waterway Access Permit if your paddlecraft is over 10 feet long. More info here: https://www.oregon.gov/osmb/boater-info/Pages/AIS-FAQs.aspx (And starting in January 2026 it will be any length.)
  • Yourself, ideally dressed in the clothes/swimsuit you’re going to paddle in to save time.
  • Water shoes you can wear on the steep-ish metal grate ramp to get to the dock, and also on your kayak/SUP. (This could be an old pair of tennis shoes you don’t mind getting wet, Teva/Keen type sandals that fully strap to your foot, etc. but preferably not flip flops or something you could lose in the river.)
  • Sunscreen, hat, something to put your car keys/phone in, water bottle (FYI, alcohol isn’t allowed in the park), etc.
  • Maybe a change of clothes for after.

Housekeeping:

  • Please keep your RSVP up to date and check in with Kristina or cross your name off the sign-in sheet when you arrive so you don't get marked as a no-show. We regularly remove people with 2+ no-shows from the group.
  • Make sure to follow the Community Rules in this group's About section. These include being honest, no harassing or aggressive behavior, and no touching anyone at an event without explicit verbal consent. If anyone violates these rules or makes you feel uncomfortable, please let the event host (like Kristina) know or reach out to another group organizer (like Max, Kevin, Cory, Rachel, Cat or Erin).

Any questions? Comment below.

**P.S. If anyone (who's been to a few of our events recently) would be interested in hosting an event in the PDX Single 30 & 40 Somethings group, please reach out to me/Kristina. I'm at maximum capacity for hosting, but I'd love to support more organizers posting more events :-)
