Have you heard warnings about cyanobacteria blooms or seen goopy green stuff in a river and wondered what it was?

Join fellow science/environment-minded singles for a Science Pub lecture all on cyanobacteria blooms — what causes them, what local specialists are learning about them in the Willamette River, and strategies for mitigating them.

And if you have a nerdy t-shirt or something you've been looking for an occasion to wear, now's your chance! (This is totally optional, but could be a fun conversation starter if you have one you want to wear.)

Care to join us?

  • Get your ticket ahead of time (the suggested donation is $8) before it potentially sells out.
  • Let's meet up at the Kennedy School at 5:45 so we can say hello before the doors open at 6, grab seats together, get a drink/snack, and chat a bit before the presentation starts.
  • Find Kristina or Brent (we'll wear ridiculous crowns and our favorite science-y t-shirts to make it easier) and introduce yourself. We'll cross you off the list, and maybe give you a wristband if we end up with a large group.
  • After the event, folks could go to a nearby bar/restaurant to socialize more.

Wait, what is this event? These Science Pubs are casual lectures with engaging slides and visuals from a local expert. For more info on this event, go here.

Reminder: Make sure to follow the Community Rules in this group's About section. These include no harassing or aggressive behavior, no touching anyone at an event without explicit verbal consent, and using your real name and photo in your Meetup profile. If anyone violates these rules or makes you feel uncomfortable, please let the event host (like Kristina) know or reach out to another group organizer (like Max, Kevin, Cory or Erin).

Any questions? Comment below.

**P.S. If anyone (who's been to a few of our events recently) would be interested in hosting an event in the PDX Single 30 & 40 Somethings group, please reach out to Kristina. I'm at maximum capacity for hosting, but I'd love to support more organizers posting more events :-)
