Beginner bachata dancing class series for February ๐๐ป
Details
Want to learn the basics of bachata dancing with fellow single folks on Tuesday nights in February? Let's do it!
Bachata is a social/partner dance from the Dominican Republic that's become popular around the world. To me, it seems roughly like a simpler, slower, and sexier counterpart to salsa dancing... but I've only ever taken one lesson, so we'll see :-) Here's a video to give you more of an idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_00FjwhoXAE
The classes:
This is a 4-week series of beginner-focused classes that will happen every Tuesday in February from 6:30-7:30 pm (plus a free and optional practica from 7:30-8:30 for us to practice more) at Vitalidad Movement Arts Center (VMAC) in Portland. It costs $75 for the series.
What to expect:
- This is a totally beginner-friendly class. You won't be expected to have any previous bachata or dancing experience, and you don't need special shoes or anything.
- We'll be in a class with about 10-20 students from the general public plus the people from our Meetup group, and we'll rotate and dance with everyone.
- For anyone curious or familiar with bachata, the lesson will be teaching the 'modern bachata' style.
- Note: Finding parking is surprisingly tough near VMAC and class starts promptly at 6:30, so if you're driving I'd highly recommend giving yourself extra time to find a spot, walk over, and check in.
How to sign up:
- Go to https://www.vmacpdx.com/registration.html and find "February Bachata 1 (Orange)" under Tuesday, February 3. (You may need to select February 1 in the little calendar option under "Find a class" to see it.) Click "sign up" and then go through the process to create a profile. (Note: For anyone who took the bachata classes last April, that was Teal so this won't be a repeat or anything.)
- When you get to the part of choosing your pass, choose "follow" or "lead" based on what role in the dance you'd like to learn. Traditionally, women typically are "follows" in partner dances and men are "leads", but please choose whichever you'd like to learn in the class. For example, if you already know how to bachata dance as a lead you might want to take this beginner class a follow... or if you're a woman/non-binary and you'd mostly like to dance with women, you might want to take this class as a lead.
- Finish signing up and pay for the class with VMAC.
