Science Pub: Tornado Tech
Details
Join fellow science-minded singles for a Science Pub lecture called Tornado Tech: How TV Stations Cover Severe Weather.
And if you have a nerdy/science-y t-shirt or something you'd want to wear for funsies or as a conversation starter, go for it! (This is totally optional, but I’ll wear a T-shirt that says “Science, like Magic but Real”.)
Care to join us?
- Get your ticket ahead of time (the suggested donation is $8) before it quite possibly sells out.
- Let's meet up at Mission Theater (probably just inside the main entrance) doors open at 6:00 so we can say hello, grab seats together, get a drink/snack, and chat a bit before the presentation starts at 7:00.
- Find Chris (I’ll wear a Burger King Crown and a science-y shirt to make it easier) and introduce yourself.
Wait, what is this Science Pub event? This will be a casual lecture in a cool theater. Here's the blurb for the event: Severe weather captures people’s attention. TV stations and streaming platforms offer nearly continuous coverage of tornadoes, strong thunderstorms, flash flooding, and blizzards.
In the last 15 years, technology has evolved to the point where a live video stream can originate anywhere on the planet. TV station staff, storm chasers, independent meteorologists, and weather enthusiasts have turned streaming platforms into big sources for weather coverage. In this lecture, we will take a look at the technology used to track these storms, and how storm chasers in the field are able to share real-time video and photographs despite the storm raging around them.
With Science Pub speaker Bobby Corser, Digital Meteorologist and Content Producer for KATU-TV in Portland. For more info on this event, go here.
