PDX Stoa (Stoic Philosophy Discussion Group)
Details
Has that device in your pocket started acting less like a convenience and more like a tiny personal tormentor? What once promised connection and relief now often behaves more like a portable distress machine.
Stoicism trains us to keep a steadier demeanor, hold our ground, and purposefully decide what actually deserves our attention.
At this PDX Stoa gathering, we spend an evening practicing exactly that. We will begin with refreshments and snacks, then, if the weather cooperates, head outside for an easygoing conversation around the fire.
Along the way, we will share short Stoic passages, talk about how they apply to ordinary life, and consider what it might look like to move through a world of constant digital agitation with a little more steadiness, perspective, and self-command.
Please bring a short Stoic quote or passage that means something to you, along with 10 to 12 printed copies to share with the group.
Whether you are brand new to Stoicism or simply tired of carrying a panic button in your pocket, you will find thoughtful people, good conversation, and a chance to leave feeling a bit less yanked around by the machinery of modern life.
