PDX Stoa (Stoic Philosophy Discussion Group)
Details
There's a quiet kind of rebellion in refusing to be rattled.
The modern world seems to run at a permanent low boil. Staying calm can start to feel almost like a character flaw.
The Stoics would disagree. They saw steadiness as a skill - the practice of deciding what actually deserves your attention, and quietly declining to surrender peace of mind.
At this PDX Stoa gathering, we'll practice exactly that. We'll share a few short Stoic passages, talking about how they hold up against ordinary life, and enjoying the rare pleasure of a discussion that isn't trying to become a contest.
What to bring:
• A short Stoic quote or passage that means something to you
• 10–12 printed copies to share with the group
Whether you're new to Stoicism or just tired of living at a permanent simmer, you'll find good company and a chance to leave a little steadier than when you arrived.
