Talk #1 - 6:45pm
Speakers: Mike Coleman and Jialu Wang, Engineers and co-founders @ Port 9 Labs
Title: Proxy assisted live video production in the cloud
Abstract: Mike Coleman and Jialu Wang, from Port 9 Labs, would like to propose a different architecture for distributed live cloud production. Instead of viewing and controlling a cloud-based switcher app via a remote desktop protocol, they have split the switcher into two parts: a cloud-based switcher operating on uncompressed video, and ground-based switchers that operate on low bitrate proxy media sent from the cloud. Time-stamped commands from the proxy switchers are applied to the cloud switcher in a frame accurate manner with an overall latency of around 1 second. They believe that this split should enable a more scalable, resilient, yet cost effective cloud service and a better user experience for the operators on the ground. Please attend and let them know what you think about it.

Talk #2 - 7:15
Speaker: Igor Oreper - Head of Strategic Growth and Chief Architect @ Bitmovin
Title: AV1 in the real-world
Abstract: It's been about 5 years since the first ever AV1 streams hit the inter webs with Firefox playback only, taking 200x more compute to create than AVC streams. Now AV1 streams are mainstream - created and delivered to viewers daily saving millions of dollars for the worlds largest video streaming services like YouTube and Netflix. All while delivering a better viewer experience including in bandwidth constrained regions around the world. This talk will delve into the history of AV1 as a codec, its role in a multi-codec world, device and feature support, required compute to generate streams today, and a real-world ROI model. As is obligatory in any video codec talk, there will be side-by-side comparisons and charts too!
