PDX Video Tech Members!
We have a great line-up of video tech talks. If you can make it in-person, reward yourself with pizza and a beverage. This event is both in-person and will be streaming live. Doors open at 6 PM!

Thanks a lot to our sponsor M2A Media for supporting this event!

Talk #1 - 6:30pm
Live, resilient cloud production with Port 9 Labs
Speakers: Mike Coleman and Jialu Wang, Engineers and co-founders @ Port 9 Labs

Last year Mike Coleman and Jialu Wang from Port 9 Labs gave us an introduction to their company and their ideas for building a live production service in the cloud. They are now a year closer to release, and focusing a lot of time on user experience.

In tonight's talk they will give more details and examples including:

  • Details on how asynchronous processing enables resiliency in the cloud.
  • A gateway that allows NDI products on the ground to be used with the service, with a use case involving sports replay.
  • More examples of integrating media such as motion graphics.
  • A demonstration using Apple's Vision Pro, showing how AR can greatly improve the distributed production experience.

Talk #2 - 7:20pm
Breaking news in the cloud: syndication and advanced capture of broadcast-grade, live transport streams in AWS
Speaker: Marcus Box, CEO @ M2A

In the fast-paced realm of broadcasting, traditional news gathering faces a transformative shift. In this talk, Marcus Box, CEO, M2A, discusses how cloud tech can lead this change. A deep dive into M2A's latest product developments will demonstrate how broadcasters can:

  • acquire live feeds globally, integrating them into a single platform. Segmenting these feeds into manageable chunks for storage on Amazon S3 then allows for immediate reconstruction into full programmes without transcoding.
  • capture live events in real-time via applications ranging from live video recording to the production of rough cuts ready for post-production, negating the need for expensive satellite feeds, leveraging the internet for a scalable and cost-effective solution.
  • take advantage of frame-accurate clipping, facilitating quick content generation, akin to a modern 'newscutter' workflow.
  • ensure quality preservation and global content accessibility, making efficiencies and supporting the shift towards cloud-based, immediate global syndication.

COVID-19 safety measures
