Online Petition: Tell Saddleback College: Say NO to Compass Energy’s Grant. To sign - go to https://blessinoc.org/petition/
Saddleback College cannot claim neutrality while accepting $750,000 from Compass Energy Storage—a foreign developer trying to build a massive battery facility in San Juan Capistrano. Taking money that directly supports Compass’s state application is not neutral—it’s participation.
It’s time to speak up. Sign the petition and urge the Saddleback College Board of Trustees to reject the grant, cancel the agreement, and stand with the people—not the developers.
What you should understand about Lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) batteries - While LFP batteries are generally safer and they are found in our EVs, solar energy storage, backup power systems, portable electronics like our cell phones, and medical devices, they still pose risks including fire and explosion, especially if damaged or overcharged, which can lead to thermal runaway. They can release toxic fumes and hazardous electrolytes that cause chemical burns upon contact. Do you really want this by our ocean, communities, and hillsides?
For more information on the hazards of LFP, check out some articles -
