About us
Hello,
My name is Dori Jo. I facilitate classes and host social spaces for:
- introverts
- people with C-PTSD, ADHD
- people whose nervous system got stuck in freeze mode since childhood (you may not even realise it as that's all you have ever known.)
- truth seekers and truth tellers
- peaceful warriors
Who am I?
- I spent many months at zen buddhist retreats in Europe and underwent traditional zen monk training in a Japanese zen monastery only to realise that all I did was "spiritual bypassing". Spiritual bypassing is when a wounded human being decides to attain enlightenment and leave worldly affairs and his/her "dirty" ego behind to finally be free of the pain, rage and suffering he/she has been carrying around all his/her life. The problem is that you can't transcend your ego if you are fragmented, disintegrated, dissociated: if you lack a healthy sense of self. People with developmental trauma had been prevented from growing into their true, authentic selves due to lack of appropriate mirroring a.k.a. love from their dysfunctional caregivers. As a result they have no idea who they are and often find themselves victims of circumstances and other peoples' unloving behaviour. It took me 10+ years to realise that I first must address the damage that was done to me, reconnect with my inner child and get to know my personality (!) better before I rush to become one with Spirit because my life makes no sense and I am unhappy.
I realised I had lived my whole life in Freeze mode. Meditation is a terrible idea for folks who are stuck in freeze mode! "The problem with individuals who are stuck in the freeze-response is that our parasympathetic nervous system are in over-drive and the methods we are recommended only makes things worse. We need to be doing activities that excite us and activate our sympathetic nervous system instead, like dancing martial arts, rigorous exercise and dynamic breath (and not calming or deep breathing exercises). I, for instance have noticed that I'm always happier, hopeful and calm after having intense dance sessions." (Student on Reddit studying Medicine.) First, we need to move ourselves out of freeze mode before we should aspire attaining samadhi.
I facilitate spaces and lead classes that provides inspiration and support for people who need co-regulation and/or a boost to gain traction in their lives and reconnect with their life force.
I am not a mental health professional. I am very well read on trauma related literature but more importantly I figured out some things in my own life and getting better and better at discerning what serves my growth and wellbeing and what hinders it. Now I am beginning to grasp how I can apply my free will in my own life, and the pleasure and pride that comes from applying self-discipline in my every day life - which is very different from a New Year's Eve resolution!
Community Guideline for my Classes & Spaces (please read carefully):
I am a member of the Free Speech Union. I fiercely oppose cancel "culture" and the terminology that it unleashed on our Western culture.
If you "identify as", your pronouns may be or may not be adhered to by other participants or by myself. Misgendering someone does not provide ground for anyone to be removed from my classes. It doesn’t constitute a genocide either. On the other hand, if an individual demands others to be removed from my class because of "misgendering", the individual demanding cancellation will be removed from my class and blocked from future classes.
I look forward to meeting other courageous souls on the healing path,
Dori Jo
