Hike to Black and Frozen Lakes at RMNP

Details

Strenuous, we want to maintain at least medium speed.
Distance- 12 miles
Elevation gain- 2,600 ft
Max elevation- 11,650 ft

The trail will take us to this stunning alpine destination. We will also pass by Mills and Jewel lakes and Alberta Falls in the morning. Black lake is surrounded by beautiful rugged peaks, and after enjoying the views, we will keep going to the Frozen Lake. Above Black lake, we will need to find our own way- usually there are many cairns made by many people, and not all are good routs; also, we will need to find the driest ways to cross streams there. On the way back, we will take Fire trail to avoid the afternoon crowd.

We'll meet at the free Visitor Center parking garage (lower level) as I have reservations for only 2 cars. Please arrive earlier to be ready to leave by 6:15 AM- the lines to enter the park are long and we don't want to miss our reservation. We will drive to either Glacier Gorge parking or Bear Lake parking lot, whichever is available.

Be prepared for changing weather conditions. Have plenty of snacks, water, and bring your rain gear. We will not need any traction devices by now.
By signing up for this hike, you take full responsibility for your safety.
