Details

IMPORTANT: To be registered for the tournament, you will need to go to www.zilkerchess.com and make an account using your phone number. It is free. You can do this ahead of time, or on Saturday when you arrive at the park.

(Our typical turnout is around 15-25 people)

This is a five-round, Swiss-style tournament. 5+3 time control. Players are matched based on rating. Casual, no entry free. Tournament size is typically 25-40 people.

(Registration starts at 2, and the games start at 2:30. Try to be on time for registration—if you're late we can't guarantee you'll be able to participate in the tournament.)

If you have chess sets and/or clocks, please bring them with you!

Feel free to bring snacks and beverages!

Our tournament rules:

  1. We play “clock move”, which means that your move is not complete until you press the button on the clock, thus you can change your move as much as you want, as long as you haven’t hit the clock yet. Once you hit the clock, your move is complete, and it’s your opponent’s turn.
  2. We play “take kings” which means, you don’t have to announce check, and if your opponent doesn’t notice that they’re in check and makes an illegal move, you can capture their king and claim the victory.
  3. Use the same hand to hit the clock that you use to move your piece on each individual move.
  4. In order to participate in the tournament, there is no minimum skill required, we just ask that you know the rules of chess! If you're unfamiliar/unsure of the rules, we'd be happy to teach you so you can participate the following week!
