Intro to Jumping part 2

Details
This is part 2 of a two part clinic. Part 1 is here.
Have you always wanted to fly through the sky, but been too afraid to try? (nice rhyming, right?)
Or maybe you've given it a shot, but your knees and elbows can't take another flop. (okay, now I'll stop)
We'll explore the basics of tabletop jumping in this two part clinic series. Sign up for both clinics for the best experience, but you won't be able to attend part 2 if you haven't attended part 1, as they will be designed to build upon each other.
I was never one of those kids who grew up jumping at the local BMX track, and was terrified to actually be propelled skyward. But for the past couple of years, I've been obsessing over how to best teach jumping to riders like me. I think I have some tips and techniques that will help take the fear out of jumping, and make it so fun and addicting that you'll want to do it over and over again.
This is Intro to Jumping part 2. Building upon part 1, we'll:
- review the fundamentals covered in part 1
- explore different jump sizes and geometries
- discuss mindsets and approaches to practicing at a public jump park
- have lots and lots of practice with video analysis
Who should attend:
This clinic is for the intermediate level rider and above. Ideally, you ride on a somewhat regular basis, are fairly comfortable with your bike and don't mind being challenged. If you're not sure, please don't hesitate to ask. Also, you may attend this part 2 clinic only if you've attended part 1.
Please note - there is inherent risk in jumping. We will be learning how to (momentarily) leave the clutches of gravity with significant momentum! This clinic is designed to progress you safely through the steps to experience jumping correctly...but, accidents can still happen. Elbow/knee pads and a full face helmet are encouraged. Reach out if you have any questions.
This might seem obvious, but just in case…items to consider:
- Helmet (mandatory)
- Gloves (mandatory)
- Eye protection / sunglasses
- Cycling specific jersey / shorts
- Elbow / knee pads
- Adequate water supply via bottles or hydration pack
- Food / energy bar
- Quick release seat post clamp or adjustable height seat post
- Sunscreen
- Spare tube
A note on pedals / shoes:
We’ll be getting on and off the bike quite a bit and not going for any particularly long rides. If you have platform pedals, or “flats” that you can temporarily change to, it might be something to consider. It just takes a variable out of the equation when learning new skills versus using “clip-in” style shoes/pedals. If you don’t have flats, or prefer to learn with the setup that your most comfortable with, that’s fine too. I have a couple extra pairs of flat pedals if you would like to borrow them, just let me know.
3 students minimum for the session to take place!
