Read Along - A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens - Session 1

Details
(I know, I know, but I couldn't find an illustration that would work without paying money for it. Besides, I like this one!)
In what is an annual tradition for us, we'll read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, out-loud, together. The non-traditional part is that we're going to do it in two sessions this time, so that we get all the way through it and have time to discuss and share afterwards. When you've been admitted to the reading room, please rename yourself with at least your first name and the number that the host will give you in order of your appearance. This is also the order that we will read in.
Wikisource has the most readable and navigable online texts. So we will use the 1843 version available at the link below (copy and past into your browser). This version has pictures too!

We will end this session in the middle of Stave Three, with the paragraph about the Cratchits that starts and ends as follows: "There was nothing of high mark in this...Scrooge had his eye upon them, and especially on Tiny Tim, until the last."
The next paragraph is where we pick up next week.
As always, if you RSVP as a "yes" and then realize you will not be present after all, please update your attendance on this site so that we know not to expect you and can plan the reading accordingly. Thanks.
