# PING Permaculture gathering Field activity - SWALES CREATION -
| Hello everyone,
Thank you to everyone who attended our second indoor meeting at Fairfield House a month ago, and apologies for the long wait before this third event. We're looking forward to getting together again and continuing to build momentum for our local permaculture community.
This time, our P!NZ gathering will be a hands-on field experience at 21 Brooklands Road , a new site that is about to be transformed using permaculture principles.
The property is approximately 1,500 m² , with two main buildings and around 900 m² available for the establishment of a productive food forest.
The afternoon will focus on:
Digging two swales and demonstrating the correct process, including levelling and marking out contour lines.
Discussing the role of swales in water management and food forest design.
Planting a few fruit trees and demonstrating the soil amendments and planting techniques that Ted has successfully used for many years.
This will be a great opportunity to gain some practical experience and see the early stages of a permaculture design being implemented on site.
Please bring any gardening tools you may have (spades, shovels, mattocks, wheelbarrows, etc.) as we'll be digging the swales and planting the trees together. The more tools we have, the more we can get done!
We will meet at 1:45 pm.
