Friendship: What Predicts That Two People Become and Stay Friends?
Details
Friendships are an important part of our lives, but forming and maintaining them seems to be more challenging today. Loneliness and social isolation have become increasingly prominent concerns, and some of the reasons may be related to greater flexibility and mobility in our lives: many of us move between cities and countries, change jobs more often, work remotely, or belong to social circles where people regularly come and go.
At our next meetup, we’ll chat about friendship from both psychological and practical perspectives. The discussion will be organised around five broad questions:
- What is friendship?
- What predicts whether two people become friends?
- What predicts whether two people stay friends?
- Is forming and maintaining friendships more difficult today? If so, why?
- What can we do to form and maintain meaningful friendships?
We’ll also have time to talk about our own experiences and brainstorm ideas for future meetups.
See you soon,
Ángel
P.S. If you'd like to suggest another question for us to discuss, let me know!
