Asset Performance Management (APM) is a booming discipline that strongly complements Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) by providing fact-based decision support for better asset maintenance strategies. During this session, at the intersection of AI, OT & IT, we plan to demonstrate how simple it has become to take advantage of low cost IoT sensors and machinery to continuously monitor and evaluate asset health, to predict asset behaviour and to accelerate maintenance activities – thus reducing the need for physical inspections and ultimately enabling a move of your asset maintenance policy needle from a pure calendar base to a more cost effective real-condition and predictive base.

More specifically, we will first show ‘The Beast’ in detail – what hardware parts it is made of and how it communicates with an IoT platform in the cloud. Then, we will show how its health is monitored real-time in our APM solution, and how, using machine learning algorithms on the data it generates, a reliability engineer can predict some of its future behaviour. Following that, we will demonstrate how using Watson’s natural language understanding capabilities, a field technician can easily diagnose any issue ‘The Beast’ might encounter and be provided with all the relevant information required to ensure a better, safer and faster fix.

Finally, Tom Zorde from the ‘Perth IoT Community’ meetup group will conclude by giving us some perspectives on what’s going on and what is coming in the Perth IoT world.
