What we’re about
If you missed out on learning how to sail when you were young, come and join us on "Krista" - a 6.5 metre long sail boat designed in Western Australia, for Western Australian conditions. "Krista" is a Spacesailer 22 and she's been kitted out specifically to take people - who have never been sailing before - out on the beautiful Swan River.
Easy-paced learning in a safe environment is what Krista Sailing School is all about. No experience necessary. If you have good balance, can lift your knee up to your chest and you have the strength in your upper body to lift a washing-basket full of wet washing, then you are up for the challenge of sailing. If sailing is not your thing, you can always volunteer to help run the start and safety crew. We'll find something for you to do, and you'll meet great people along the way.
"Krista" lives at the Claremont Yacht Club - a family-friendly club. Lessons are open to anybody aged 18 and older. Don't be fooled into thinking that yacht clubs are for the rich and famous, they are made up of ordinary people like you and me. Learn how to tie useful knots, read the weather, hoist and retrieve the sails (and pack them away properly), set the sails for optimum performance, navigate the Swan River and understand safety on the water. You will be a "competent crew" which is a sought-after person in any marina. There are also dedicated courses that you can do if you are keen to learn more.
